How to Choose an Electric Cargo Tricycle
The right electric cargo tricycle starts with the goods you need to move. A large box can be useful for light, bulky deliveries, while dense materials create a different requirement. Give suppliers a clear working brief so their quotations describe vehicles you can compare.

Describe the load in two ways
Record both the weight and the space occupied by a normal load. Include packaging, crates and any equipment carried on the vehicle. Then describe the heaviest expected trip separately. “Ten cartons” is a useful starting point only when the supplier also knows the size and weight of each carton.
A supplier’s listed load capacity is a reference for a particular configuration. Ask what the figure includes and request written confirmation for the vehicle you intend to order. Do not treat a large cargo box or a high motor rating as proof of a specific carrying capacity.

- Will goods be stacked, secured or carried in an enclosure?
- How often is the vehicle loaded and unloaded?
- Does unloading require opening side panels or a tipping body?
Compare the cargo body with the job
Check usable internal dimensions, loading height and the way panels open. If your goods are collected from a warehouse, measure the actual access opening and loading area. A vehicle that fits the goods but cannot comfortably reach the loading point is the wrong starting point.

Give the supplier a route profile
State the approximate daily distance, number of trips, stopping frequency, road surface and whether the route has hills. Add the narrowest access point, parking space and any covered entrances. Photographs and a simple route description can explain a requirement more clearly than a requested motor wattage alone.
Compare motor, controller, battery, brakes and tires as a complete proposed configuration. Ask which performance figures apply to the agreed load and operating conditions. A maximum speed printed in a catalog does not establish suitability for a delivery route or permission to use a public road.
Plan the charging routine before asking for range
Tell the supplier where the vehicle will charge, how long it can remain connected and what electrical supply is available. Request the battery chemistry, voltage, capacity, charger specification and whether the battery is included in the vehicle price. Ask for a range estimate that identifies the battery and test conditions.
Keep battery configuration consistent when comparing quotations. Two vehicles with the same model name may be offered with different batteries, chargers or other equipment. Record those differences rather than comparing only the headline price.
Turn the shortlist into a testable order brief
For a sample, agree what you will inspect: cargo dimensions, loading and unloading access, controls, the specified components and performance under agreed conditions. Establish the acceptance criteria with the supplier before the sample is prepared.
Include your destination country, preferred model, quantity and spare-parts requirements. Ask which instructions, model documents and support materials are available.
